Your definition of what constitutes a 'useful' degree is flawed. University is for education, not necessarily securing paid employment. Furthermore, how do you know what courses will be useful in the future? Things change fast, for example, film degrees are pretty useful in this world with YouTube, 20 years ago, not so much.

Education enriches people's lives and society at large, it should be free for all.
