You don’t have to forgive your mother, it’s your choice and there should be no pressure to forgive someone who should have cared for you but didn’t. If forgiveness is forced in any way, then its not true forgiveness.
Ultimately, I think forgiveness is the best outcome because it allows you to find peace in yourself, it’s not about making the other person feel better. But if you cannot or do not want to forgive, then acceptance is a good outcome also.
I’m working on acceptance towards my mother who was not able to love me properly. Maybe I’ll find forgiveness one day, maybe not, I’m fine with that.
