Yep it seems some people expected a Star Wars film to be on the level of ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ or similar high-concept sci-fi. Star Wars has never and will never be anything other than entertaining blockbuster fodder. It’s fantasy/western/swashbuckling…. in space!
It’s not meant to be deep, complex or thought-provoking! And that’s exactly what I expect and want from a Star Wars film — pure entertainment. And that’s exactly what we got from the new trilogy, I’m happy.
Much better than the badly acted, badly scripted, bad character-development and confusing/non-existent plot of the prequels. Those films were not even on the level of entertainment. That’s what happens when you leave Lucas with full control, rather than having major input from talented writers and directors like he did for the original trilogy.
