Well said, thank you. Blaming the individual solely is a way to push away responsibility from themselves and their own thinking and behaviour, and the influence that society has on all of us. 'Othering' is a powerful defence mechanism.
Every time a man argues with me in articles about rape, I can't help but think he's telling on himself and his past actions. Maybe that's unfair but I can't help but question why some men are so quick to argue against set definitions that are not up for debate. They refuse to believe that rape is about non-consent, in all it's forms (not solely extreme examples of violent stranger rapes).
I'm glad we're having this reckoning. I have family members directly impacted by rape. I'm pretty sure this is true in many families, an issue directly affecting women.
