Striving for authenticity in all areas of your life is folly. For example, my real, true self is emotional, prone to angry outbursts that disappear as soon as they appear. I'm working on it. But there's no way I'm going to show that 'authentic' side of myself at work - it would be unpleasant for everyone to have to endure.
I expect the same courtesy from others - don't bring all your authentic shit into work, I don't get paid enough to deal with that.
Also, everyone behaves differently around different people and situations. For example, when I'm with grandparents, I'm not going to make sarcastic jokes like I do when I'm with my siblings - but does that mean I'm not being 'authentic' around my grandparents?
Authenticity is overrated imo.
