Rebecca, I agree with you, the other commenter seems to have over-reacted somewhat in my opinion. Maybe they are new to Medium? I've seen much, much worse comments on here, your comment was fair.

I find it quite suspect that the victim mentioned in this article was crossing the road, but of course we don't have all the details. Your thought process is similar to mine - what was this man doing crossing the road? Was he crossing safely? The odds are that he wasn't crossing in a safe place. I often see elderly people crossing at dangerous or busy parts of the road, often when there is a safe crossing nearby! Obviously this is a tragic accident but the author should not be so hard on herself (I know that is easier said than done).
