One person's costs of living rising is not the same as the general trends that the author highlights, which include millions of people's lives across the whole country. To compare your personal costs rising to literal millions of people is missing the author's point completely. Your personal costs rising proves nothing about the general situation across the whole country - it only proves that your costs have risen, that's all. If you want to apply your personal experience to the whole population, you'll need to back your argument up with facts, figures etc, which you haven't done.
