I’ve been doing the same recently, whenever I feel the scared and lonely child come out (that is still within me) I say to myself ‘I’m here with you’ and similar sentiments, it helps a lot. I tell myself the things I wish my parents should have, but didn’t.
I had therapy this year for 7 months, I find I can identify my feelings in the moment much better than before, then I’m able to comfort myself. Glad to hear it works for you too.
