It's not over the top. It's certainly extreme behaviour from the parent, and it depends how the individual child reacts to that - some children could have very negative outcomes from being completely banned from using social media. Trauma is less about the actual event and more about how the individual reacts to it - any extreme behaviour (such as completely banning something) makes negative reactions more likely. It's better to work with your child, not against them.
