I'm personally pretty meh about the Queen's death, but I see your point and can understand why some people will miss her. George Orwell was not a supporter of the monarchy but he believed that having a monarchy might prevent the rise of fascism because it gives an outlet for patriotic feelings for those types of people that might be attracted to fascism.
