I'd say that's comparing apples to oranges, but let's think about it more.
Intention and the wider context are important distinctions to consider. It's the difference between punching up and punching down.
If a black person tells me that white people are racist in order to highlight a disparity and improve their situation, then I can accept that. If a woman tells me that men are violent to also highlight a problem that they suffer from, I can also accept that.
At the least, I will listen and think about it - I might not agree, but then again, I'm the target of this statement, and I'm the person who benefits from the current system of patriarchy and violence (more so compared to women). So if I disagree, then I must consider why this is?
What I won't do is dismiss women's concerns out of hand and try to argue that they are the problem when they use generalised statements. I believe women are trying to highlight a problem in society, so I listen.
My own experience also backs up the statement that many men are violent. I believe most men's experiences also back this up, whether they want to admit it or not.
