I had a choice of a male or female therapist, but I was happy to have a random choice so ended up with a female therapist. But just wanted to let you know that male therapists are usually available if a person has a preference.
I agree with your idea about needing a deeper perspective, it’s the approach I’m taking with my therapy. What I do is have an hour session, then in the week after, I read a lot of related articles and book chapters, as well as writing my thoughts down. My belief with therapy is that I get out of it as much as I put in. It’s working so far, which I’m glad about.
I’ve watched a few Jordan Peterson talks on youtube. He’s a great storyteller and speaker, but I find a lot of his points a bit obvious self-help ideas such as ‘find your purpose’. I’m not knocking him, and kudos to you if it helps you live your life well, it’s just not for me.
