Good advice, thank you. Many years ago I inadvertedly insulted a coworker by asking if she was ok and that she looked unwell - she told me she felt fine and was just not wearing any makeup that day! I felt awful, said sorry and vowed never to comment on a woman's appearance in this way again. If I think someone looks unwell, I just ask them how are they feeling today, that's all.

I've since learned that many men (including myself!) have misconceptions about women's makeup, and there are makeup looks that are supposed to look like no makeup is being worn. My understanding is that many men think no makeup is preferable, but in reality they don't actually like it when women wear no make up! It's something I make effort to be mindful of, and just keep my big mouth shut about a woman's appearance because it's none of my damned business!
